Our signals appear to detect a new trailer classified as “Super Secret.” Well, by “Super Secret,” I guess they were meaning publicly visible all around the globe? All joking aside, this is the final trailer for Blue Sky’s Spies in Disguise, releasing in cinemas this Christmas.

Expanding upon the 2009 animated short Pigeon Impossible by Lucas Martell, Spies in Disguise unites Will Smith (live-action Aladdin) and Tom Holland (MCU Spider-Man) in a high-octane buddy-comedy adventure. Here’s the official synopsis:

Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is … not. But when events take an unexpected turn, this unlikely duo are forced to team up for the ultimate mission that will require an almost impossible disguise – transforming Lance into the brave, fierce, majestic… pigeon. Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril. “Spies in Disguise” flies into theaters this Christmas.

20th Century Fox

In addition to Smith and Holland, the rest of the voice cast comprises of Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eyes, Rashida Jones (The Grinch) as Marcy Kappel, DJ Khaled as Ears, Masi Oka (The Proud Family Movie) as Kimura, and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) as the film’s intimidating villain Tristan McFord.

Blue Sky animator Nick Bruno and storyboard artist Troy Quane direct Spies in Disguise as their feature debut. Scriptwriting was done by Ferdinand co-writer Brad Copeland, and Lloyd Taylor, who provided additional story material for 2006’s The Wild.

While the previous trailers of Spies in Disguise focus on the comedy aspect, this final trailer puts a big emphasis on selling the film’s incredible action sequence, hence making it the strongest one of the bunch. Its sleek style is made more effective with the signature song “Then There Were Two,” performed by Mark Ronson and Anderson Paak. The song will be in the tracklist of the film’s coinciding album, Mark Ronson Presents the Music of Spies in Disguise.

Updating on Fox Animation’s pipeline, Deadline recently reported on Disney’s updated schedule that Blue Sky’s upcoming feature Nimona received yet another setback. Originally set for March 5, 2021, the webcomic adaptation’s ten-month delay reassigns it for January 14, 2022.

Similarly, Fox/Locksmith’s Ron’s Gone Wrong was given a shorter delay from November 6, 2020, to February 26, 2021. Meanwhile, Bob’s Burgers: The Movie, despite being incorrectly removed from the schedule due to an error by Disney, still has its release date set for July 17, 2020.

Spies in Disguise will fly into cinemas via Disney under the 20th Century Fox banner on December 25 (Christmas Day), 2019. This will be the first Fox and Blue Sky animated feature to be released under Disney’s ownership.
