3D-Printing Used in Stop-Motion Animation

We have seen all sorts of stop-motion animation: claymation, pixelation, puppet, and object animation to name a few. Now new technology and advancements in 3D-printing are forging the way for a whole new brand of stop-motion never seen before.

Creative company DBLG has begun to explore this 3D-printed stop-motion with an adorable short, Bears on Stairs.

As seen, the company used 3D-printing to seamlessly create a bear endlessly walking up a flight of stairs. It took 4 weeks and 50 printed bears in order to create this. In the style of traditional stop-motion, each bear is individually shot, and then adjusted slightly (in this case, replaced by a bear with a slightly different movement) in order to give the illusion of the bear walking.

DBLG has stated that an extended edition of Bears on Stairs is in the works.
