Ghoul-Friend-Goofy-Mickey

Now that we’re in the home stretch to Halloween, Disney has released a new animated short that is sure to have you counting down the days to the 31st, just in case you weren’t already. Ghoul Friend is the latest addition to the series of vintage Mickey shorts, telling the story of a zombie-fied Goofy and how he and Mickey go from screaming through a cemetery to enjoying a drive as friends. It’s everything you could look for in a short: the classic chase scenes, the “aw!” moment, and of course, the laughs.

The short pauses on a more realistic rendering of Goofy’s zombie form…and I did not expect it to be anywhere near this creepy.

I’ve personally never watched any of these Mickey shorts until now, mostly because they’re not traditionally animated and didn’t feel like “real” Mickey Mouse shorts, but good grief that was a mistake! I’m completely taken aback by how funny the short is, as well as just how gorgeous the artwork is, even in the creepy, desolate woods. (I swear, it’s like Goofy and Mickey are running through the concept art of Pocahontas or something.) I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of these in the future!

The short has been released in its entirety, so go ahead and give it a look!
