Brendon Connelly of Bleeding Cool has given us some awesome new details about Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2016 animated film, tentatively titled Giants. The new film, is well into development, with story details being fleshed out and concept artwork beginning to take shape.

Disney’s ONLY adaptation of the story till date.

Read the exclusive article here.

To sum up, here’s a list of major details:

  • Giants will be to Jack and the Beanstalk what Tangled was to Rapunzel and Frozen is to The Snow Queen.
  • It’s being directed by Nathan Greno, co-director of 2010’s smash hit Tangled.
  • Giants will be visually similar to Tangled and Frozen, but still somewhat superior thanks to advanced technologies.
  • The film revolves around a family of giants, named Feebus, Fifen, Fogel, Fobbert and their leader, Faustus (did you notice their names come from the old Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum rhyme?) These guys are basically the villains, but have a relatable point of view.mickey-and-the-beanstalk-giant
  • The hero of the film is named…wait for it…Jack.
  • Jack is romantically attracted to Angelina, daughter of a merchant who thinks Jack is too inferior.
  • A triangle is formed with Marco, who is rich and loves Angelina too. He maintains a friendship with Jack as well.
  • There’s a fourth human character named Inna, a “scrappy tomboy type”- and she’s essentially the warrior who lives to see justice. Too bad nobody takes her seriously since she’s a pre-teen.
  • The giants are classified as “Storm Giants.”
  • The Storm Giants have a pact with humans: the humans work for them, giving them food and livestock in exchange for security from danger.
  • Too bad the giants seem to be taking much more than they need without leaving enough for the humans.
  • Typical Disney plot point: Jack becomes friends with one of the giants, leading to lots of adventure!
  • There’s magic beans involved. It’s a huge secret what role they could actually play in the story.

Since Giants is WAY too early in the developmental stage, it’s hard to say much, but in all honesty, it looks like this is shaping to be another fun Disney (musical?) fairytale. In terms of the visual style, we can’t say much there either since there’s no concept art yet, but could this be the eagerly awaited 2D/CGI hybrid? Or will this just be CGI like Tangled and Frozen?

One thing’s for sure: there’s a new Disney fairytale on the horizon!

Disney’s Giants is currently slated for a tentative November 2016 release. Are you excited?
