Disney’s 2016 update of the classic animated/live action hybrid Pete’s Dragon now has its first official teaser poster.
The new poster gives us our first look at the film’s two protagonists – Pete and his dragon friend, Elliot. Both the characters are only partly visible, being obscured by the tree in the foreground. Overall, it’s a great looking poster, which gives us some idea of the film’s tone. Elliot the dragon, whatever little we can see of him, looks incredibly detailed and well crafted.
Disney has also released a motion poster for the film on YouTube, which features the same image, but Elliot mysteriously vanishing into thin air. It’s a good first look at the film before the trailer arrives this Sunday:
Pete’s Dragon is the latest in a long line of Disney live-action remakes of classic properties. The original film, released in 1977, is considered a family classic, and is well known for its blend of live action and hand-drawn animation. The 2016 reimagining stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Grace, a forest ranger who sets out to find out more about a legendary dragon who resides in the woods along the Pacific Northwest. Along the way, she meets a lonely 10-year old boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley), and realizes that his best friend Elliot is a lot like the creature from the legend.
Directed by David Lowery and also starring Oona Laurence, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Oscar winner Robert Redford, Pete’s Dragon comes to theatres August 12, 2016.
