Uh-oh. Potential bad news, everyone. Although nothing has been confirmed by the studio, one of our readers pointed out that both The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory have been removed from Pixar’s Upcoming Movies list in their official site. As our astute reader also points out, none of the movies were even mentioned at CinemaCon 2014.
Last we knew, The Good Dinosaur had temporarily replaced its director, Bob Peterson, with John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich and Mark Andrews. The original co-director, Peter Sohn, was still listed as co-director. Does this mean Pixar hasn’t found the right director for the project and it’s shelving it to avoid another not great movie?
As for Finding Dory, we haven’t actually heard of any problems with that. Everyone assumed it has been pushed back to 2016 so The Good Dinosaur could take its spot but maybe the Andrew Stanton-helmed movie is also having trouble.
Again, all of this is speculation. We’ll keep you updated!
Thanks for the tip, Liam!
[UPDATE 4/5/14 2:30 PST] Looks like the “Upcoming” page has been updated and The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory are back on the slate. The release dates for both films are also back.
Also, this update does give us a little more information. For The Good Dinosaur, Peter Sohn is now listed as the sole director. He was originally slated as a co-director, but after Bob Peterson was taken off, we never officially knew who would be the director since the Pixar brain trust of John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, Mark Andrews and Sohn took over temporarily. Not sure if he will have a co-director as this point. Also, there is no description for the movie, which previously had one on this page. Also, John Walker has been replaced as producer by Denise Ream.
Inside Out‘s description was also fleshed out and now says:
From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city,
house and school.
Despite the reappearance of these films on the upcoming page, it still makes us wonder. Is this a cover up of turmoil behind the scenes? Hopefully, that’s not true because we really want to see The Good Dinosaur come to fruition. Welcome back, The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory!
