Merry Christmas from Rotoscopers! It seems Disney gave us a special little Christmas present this year, and it’s a new look at one of the most anticipated 2016 animated films: Moana!
In the publicity still below, tweeted by Byron Howard (director of Disney’s upcoming Zootopia), we see our heroine Moana along with Maui. We also get our very first look at the film’s animal sidekicks: Pua the pig and Hei Hei the rooster. All the characters are surrounded by the aquamarine waves, no doubt in search of adventure.
From the above still, it seems evident that Moana will be an exciting story of adventure and discovery, and we cannot wait until November 2016 when it hits theatres!
UPDATE:
During Disney’s 2015 Disney Parks Christmas parade, keen-eyed Disney fans spotted a new clip from the movie. The few seconds of completed animation are centered around Maui. Check out the clip here, which includes a snippet of an interview with the voice of Maui, Dwayne Johnson.

Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements (who brought to life our childhood favorites The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, among others), Moana tells the tale of a young explorer who sets out on a journey of self discovery in the Pacific islands, meeting new friends and facing peril at every turn. Moana will feature music by Mark Mancina, Opetaia Foa’i and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film stars Auli’i Cravalho in the title role, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Maui the demigod.
Moana sails into theaters November 23, 2016.
