In what may serve as a nice breather from the constant stream of updates concerning Disney’s upcoming live-action remakes, we have a report centering around a long-developing installment in one of Disney’s more popular live-action franchises.
Courtesy of Screen Rant and stemming from a report by Vancity Buzz, Disney has apparently given the silent greenlight to TRON 3, which will begin shooting this fall (October 5, to be exact) in Vancouver, Canada.
The only other thing we’re being told is that Garrett Hedlund has been confirmed to return as Sam Flynn. It’s also possible the Olivia Wilde and Bruce Boxleitner may return, given that they have both spoken occasionally about reprising their roles for TRON 3.
It can also be easily assumed that TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will also be back in the director’s chair, for he too has spoken at length about TRON 3. He even teased a release date of sometime in late 2016. This sounds realistic knowing the heavy amount of post-production work required to bring the digitized world of The Grid to life.
The only thing left to wonder about now is what the story is going to be. Predictably, details remain as scarce as ever. That being said, Kosinski did claim that TRON 3 would be the Empire Strikes Back of the series. So we can definitely expect (at the least) a darker installment.
TRON 3 begins production this fall for an as-of-yet unknown release date.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to TRON 3?
