She wowed audiences with her portrayal of author P.L. Travers in 2013’s Saving Mr. Banks. Now, if a questionable gossip site is to be believed, she may be on board for another live-action Disney project, this time as a familiar character from a beloved story.
Originating from the Daily Mail website (and brought forth by IGN) are rumors that award-winning actress Emma Thompson may join Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast as Mrs. Potts, a castle cook turned talking teapot who takes a shine to Belle and serves as a motherly figure for her.
Because this information comes from an established gossip site that is frequently sensationalist in tone, it’s hard to tell whether this report is true or not. But, if true, Emma Thompson joins what is looking to be an all-British cast that includes Emma Watson as Belle, Luke Evans as Gaston, and Dan Stevens as The Beast.
Furthermore, if it’s true that she is joining the film, then there’s a good chance that her part will be done as a voiceover for a CG version of the character (while it’s possible that Dan Stevens may utilize MoCap-CG to portray his character).
The film will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2, The Fifth Estate) from a screenplay by author and filmmaker Stephan Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce through their Mandeville Films banner.
The film will have a musical component and will feature songs from the animated film, in addition to new music composed by one of the animated film’s original composers, Alan Menken.
If the rumor turns out to be true, do you think Emma Thompson is the right choice for Mrs. Potts?
