Exactly one year from today Walt Disney Animation Studio’s next big animated feature will make its debut in theaters. In 2015, the studio is taking a year off but next March they’ll be back with Zootopia and today we got a new look at the film!

Concept Art

This new piece of concept art that was released on several Disney social media pages gives a first look at the city of Zootopia, which is the main setting of the film. The city is designed so all different kind of animals can live together in this one city. The city is divided in several neighborhoods that each represent a different environment in which the different animals can live; examples of these neighborhoods are Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown which can both be seen on the concept art below. The film’s director, Byron Howard, previously described the design of the city as a modern day city designed by animals in a world where humans never existed.

Synopsis

Disney also revealed a new synopsis for the film that sheds some light on the film’s premise. We already knew that the unlikely duo of scam-artist Nick Wilde and Officer Judy Hopps team up when they both become targets of a conspiracy, but we learned today that Hopps works with Wilde to impress her co-workers at her new job as police officer.

Read the updated synopsis for Zootopia below:

”The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together — a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia, a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore and co-directed by Jared Bush, opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.”

Director News

We also learned that Rich Moore, who previously directed Wreck-it Ralph for Disney, has joined the project to direct this film together with the original director, Byron Howard. Jared Bush, who is writing the film, has also joined as a co-director. We still have no official word on the film’s voice-cast but we’ve been hearing rumors that Jason Bateman might be in talks to voice Nick Wilde.
