Just in time for our Sleeping Beauty episode, Disney has revealed two never before seen deleted scenes from the classic film, which will be featured on the upcoming Diamond Edition Blu-ray release.

The first scene, “The Arrival of Maleficent” centers on that focal moment in the story when Maleficent arrives at Princess Aurora’s christening. Clearly, the early Maleficent was intended to look like an old hag rather than the regal and terrifying villain we know and love, courtesy animator Marc Davis.

The second deleted scene, “The Curse Is Fulfilled” features another central moment, when Aurora pricks her finger on the spinning wheel. The early draft was slightly different from the final version (it appears they intended to go the Snow White way), but it’s still great to look at what might have been.

Sleeping Beauty: Diamond Edition will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and on Digital HD on October 7. Order your copy here and watch out for our Sleeping Beauty podcast this week!
