‘Chip ‘n Dale’ To Get Live Action Movie Revival

Good news for those who grew up watching Disney cartoons in the 90s: Disney has announced that the classic cartoon characters Chip and Dale will soon be seen in an all new avatar–a live action/CGI hybrid reboot of the popular franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that a new Rescue Rangers “origins” movie is set to be produced by Disney-owned Mandeville Films, based on a pitch by Robert Rugan, known for his work on commercials, who is also writing the script for the reboot. Mandeville’s Alexander Young will reportedly executive-produce. The movie is reportedly set to be in the style of recent live-action/CGI hybrid films like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Scooby Doo and The Smurfs (all of which were pretty successful). Looks like Disney wants in on the success of these movies and hopes that this will spawn a new franchise.

Disney characters Chip ‘n Dale first appeared in 1943 alongside Pluto in a short film, and went on to feature in a number of Disney animated shorts–always playing havoc in the lives of Pluto and Donald. In 1989, the duo got their own series, Chip ‘n Dale :Rescue Rangers, which ran through the 90s and today is still beloved by a generation. The series paired Chip, the brains, and Dale, the goofball, as leaders on a little rodent agency called the “Rescue Rangers”, solving crimes and mysteries for  bunch of animal and human friends. Recently the duo have been the mascots for D23, the official Disney fan club.
