Looks like the Frozen snowstorm is in full force. Yesterday we got our first clip from the film showing us Olaf’s introduction to Anna and gang. Today, we get a clip entitled “Party Is Over”, where we see what causes Elsa to flee from Arendelle after her coronation.
This clip is intriguing because it shows us our first look into the sisters’ relationship and it turns out, it’s not as hunky dory as we thought. They’re not that close. Something upsets Elsa causing her to shut down the post-coronation party and to close the palace gates. Anna grabs her begging her to stop shutting her and the world out. I feel as though Elsa is almost a tyrant because Anna says, “I can’t live like this anymore”, as if Elsa has purposely trapping Anna in the kingdom against her will. Elsa coldly responds, “Then leave”, which must come as a hard blow to her sister. It’s sad to see the sisters not getting along and is no surprise how cold Elsa is towards Anna.
You may have noticed in the Elsa trailer (officially called the “For The First Time in Forever” Trailer by Disney) that Elsa isn’t wearing her glove on one of her hands. I wondered how her glove, which she wears to keep her powers under control, came off and now I know. Anna took Elsa’s glove off when she grabbed Elsa. With her glove off, Elsa was unable to hide her powers when she became upset.
With Elsa upset and finally publically revealing her ice powers, the cat’s out of the bag. And the reception wasn’t positive. The duke calls her powers “sorcery” and, scared and frightened, Elsa flees.
I loved this clip because it finally showed us the event that ultimately causes Elsa to flee the kingdom. It’s no wonder that Anna feels compelled to go after Elsa; Anna is partially responsible for outing Elsa. I love the tension between the sisters and can’t wait to see how it’s all resolved when Frozen is finally released.
Frozen is released in theatres November 27, 2013.
