Tomorrowland was first brought to our attention back in March this year as a rumored project based on a time capsule-like box from 1952 from the Disney studios. Well, Disney has finally confirmed that indeed production began a couple of weeks ago and we even got an official plot summary.
Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”
Brad Bird (The Incredibles) will be heading the project that is scheduled to be released December 12th, 2014, which is interesting as the rumors had the scheduled release for December 19th. So maybe there is more to the rumors than we thought. The movie will be penned by Bird and Damon Lindelof (LOST, Star Trek Into Darkness) based on a short story which they also wrote along with Jeff Jensen.
Since everyone who is working on the project is known for the secrecy that surrounds their projects, we probably won’t really know what the movie is about until it hits theaters. But the viral campaign has already started and you can download an app that lets you explore the contents of the box that supposedly inspired the film!
Tomorrowland starts filming in Vancouver today so lucky Canadians will probably catch glimpses of the star-studded cast (George Clooney & Hugh Laurie included). Are you excited about Tomorrowland? Do you have any theories about it? Go download that app and hit the comments with your thoughts!
