Dusty-Crophopper-from-PlanesIn the midst of the whirlwind of animation excitement buzzing out of the D23 Expo comes good news for families who love the Disney Fairies and Planes films. Disneytoon Studios, the arm of Disney responsible for spinoff films of Disney Consumer Products franchises, has more projects up its sleeves for both entities.

Tinker Bell Franchise News

Debuting spring 2014 on Blu-ray and DVD is The Pirate Fairy, the fifth film starring Tinker Bell and her friends from Pixie Hollow. As this series has progressed, we’ve seen more and more depth revolving around these characters’ personalities and the world in which they live, and that will continue for The Pirate Fairy. The namesake of the film is a new character voiced by Christina Hendricks. Another new character, a cabin boy named James, is voiced by Tom Hiddleston, better known as Loki from the Thor films. James may or may not grow up to be a nefarious, hook-handed pirate…

Directly following in spring 2015 will be a sixth film, Legend of the Never Beast. Details are sparse on this one, but might be a scarier addition to the Tinker Bell franchise.

Planes Franchise News

Concerning the Planes series, which incidentally just kicked off this weekend in theaters, a second film entitled Planes: Fire and Rescue will debut in theaters July 18, 2014. We’ve known about this for a while, but now we have a tiny bit more information. Voice talent will include Dane Cook‘s reprisal of Dusty and Julie Bowen from Modern Family, who plays a new character, Dipper.

Aaand… that’s all for now. Like I said, a tiny bit of news.
