Though this news has not been officially confirmed by Disney reps., it comes from pretty reliable sources at Micechat and Slashfilm. It appears to be that after a lot of stopping and stalling with various versions of both the contemplated Monsters Inc. ride as well as the Tron ride, both are gearing up for a full blown go.
The new Monsters Inc. ride would be a roller coaster based on the Door Hangar scene, which would be placed near the current Monsters Inc. dark ride in Disney’s California Adventure theme park. However, the plan also includes gutting out the MuppetVision and Stage 17 buildings in order to not only make room for the new coaster, but also convert the entire area into a Monstropolis mini-land.
As for Tron, the plan is to create a speeder bike themed ride in Tomorrowland in order to help revamp that section of the Disneyland park. However, the Tron ride seems to be slightly lower on the list of priorities so no need to get too excited about that one.
While these sound like very exciting plans, they also make one very curious about their plans for the rest of California Adventure. With the potential of installing a Pixar themed ride, they appear to be blurring the lines of the overall concepts of both theme parks. It is called “California Adventure” after all, not “Pixar/Disneyland Take 2”.
These concerns aside, this all sounds very exciting, particularly because the new rides appear to coincide with Disneyland’s 60th anniversary in 2015. If these projects get official green lights, there may be more reasons to visit Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure come 2015.
