john-lasseterJohn Lasseter, chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, gave an nteresting interview to Entertainment Weekly in which he talked about the upcoming Disney and Pixar D23 slate, the future of hand-drawn animation and much more. Here are the most interesting points from the article.

Frozen

We didn’t learn much as they’re probably saving any reveals for the D23. You can find the Expo’s schedule right here. We know Anna and Kristoff will try to find Anna’s sister, Elsa who controls wind and ice and is blessed with the voice of Idina Menzel. We also got a new image, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

The Good Dinosaur

Again, we didn’t learn anything new but we got a neat piece of concept art from the Bob Peterson-directed feature film. This is Peterson directorial debut even though he’s been at Pixar for ages. He is better known for voicing two beloved and hilarious characters: Dug from Up and Roz from Monsters, Inc.

Hand-drawn, different studios, etc

Lasseter also stated there are currently no traditionally animated movies in development. This is sad news for all of us who love traditional animation but Lasseter is adamant that it’s not a lost art, since a lot of 2-D animation is needed for 3-D animation. Still, disappointing news.

He also clarified what the differences between the three different animation studios that operate under the Walt Disney Company’s banner are. He mentions the main difference is the heritage. Disney is the more traditional of them, being founded almost 90 years ago by Walt Disney himself. Pixar comes from him, Ed Catmull and Steve Jobs while Disneytoon Studios is the newest of them all and their purpose is to create direct-to-dvd movies and sequels or spin-offs based on the movies from the other studios (Like Planes).

That was all, but get ready. The next couple of days will be full of news, reveals and exciting looks at their next movies!

Movies like Toy Story, The Lion King and Aladdin made him fall in love with the art form and now he hopes to dedicate his life to telling stories, hopefully for Pixar (if they go back to doing original films). Some of his ambitions are making a movie as emotionally impacting as Toy Story 3, meeting JK Rowling, and petting a million dogs. Follow him on Twitter (@PabloRV7).
