Another day, another live-action Disney remake comes barreling down the pike.

Deadline and Variety reported that Disney purchased the spec script for a live-action comedy centered around the character of Cinderella’s Prince Charming.

Penned by Matt Fogel, who got his start as an assistant working for Phil Lord and Chris Miller on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Disney bought the spec script in an aggressive bidding war with other studios (which happened only a week after Fogel started shopping it around).

Plot details are understandably scarce, yet sources tell Variety that the film will not focus on the actual character of Prince Charming. Rather, it will focus on his brother (who is said to have “never lived up to his family name”).

Mandeville Films (which is also developing the live-action Beauty and the Beast) will produce the film alongside Tripp Vinson (San Andreas).

Ever since the original Cinderella, the character of Prince Charming has evolved. He’s changed from simply being a character in an animated film to being a universally recognizable archetype, with many different interpretations (subversive or otherwise) given to us throughout history. In film, the role was played by Richard Madden (of Game of Thrones fame) in the recent adaptation of Cinderella. On TV, Josh Dallas plays the role in ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

This will now be the twelfth film to join a rather massive slate of upcoming live-action Disney remakes (and sequels).

The list goes as follows (including two sequels): The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Beauty and the Beast, a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Tink, Night on Bald Mountain, Maleficent 2, and Prince Charming.

What do you think? Do you have any thoughts on this development? Are you looking forward to a Prince Charming film?
