Composer Thomas Newman, whose more recent credits include Skyfall and The Iron Lady, has been confirmed as the composer of Pixar’s upcoming The Good Dinosaur. Newman is no stranger to scoring Pixar movies, having already written the music for Finding Nemo and Wall-E.
The movie will be directed by Bob Peterson, who co-directed Up (and voiced Dug), and Peter Sohn, the director of Partly Cloudy, the short that played before Up. The film will show us what would’ve happened if the asteroid that caused the extinction of dinosaurs had missed Earth causing humans and mighty lizards to exist at the same time. Newman also mentioned how composing for animation is harder than live-action because of the constantly changing tone. Animated movies can switch from dramatic moments to hilarity to emotional moments so keeping the music in tone with the atmosphere must be difficult. But having composed this beautiful piece for Wall-E, we’re sure Newman will create something special for Pixar’s next original movie, coming to theaters May 30, 2014.
