As DreamWorks Animation continues to branch out into the world of television, today they gave us the first trailer for their upcoming Monsters vs. Aliens TV series. The new series is based on the hit 2009 film of the same name, which grossed a cool $381 million worldwide.
The new series will air this April on Nickelodeon and will be preceded by a special called Monsters vs. Aliens: Welcome To Area Fifty-Something.
As in the original film, Monsters vs Aliens tells the story of a team of monsters (Dr. Cockroach, Missing Link, B.O.B. and the 49 1/2 foot woman Ginormica) brought together to protect the Earth from invading aliens. Here’s the official synopsis:
Welcome to Area Fifty-Something, a secret desert outpost crawling with displaced monsters and aliens. Monsters and aliens have quite a bit in common — strange appearance, superpowers and senses of humor, to name a few — but when they are forced to work side by side in a strange land, tempers begin to boil. Watch as they do their best to get along, this Spring on Nick!
No word yet on whether the original cast of Reese Witherspoon (Ginormica), Seth Rogen (B.O.B), Hugh Laurie (Dr. Cockroach) and Will Arnett (The Missing Link) will be reprising their roles.
