Best Animated Feature Rotoscopers

In honor of the upcoming Golden Globes (the first in a round of awards ceremonies leading to the Oscars), we’re going to run a short number of articles detailing the awards won so far and who won them!

Last month, Cartoon Brew reported that the New York Film Critics Circle voted The LEGO Movie as best animated film of the year. The circle tweeted the winners of their respective winners on the morning of December 1.

It was the second major award for The LEGO Movie, just a week after they won the Children’s BAFTA Award.

As noted in the article, the NYFCC isn’t exactly an accurate measurement of who might take the Oscar. In the last 13 years, only 4 films voted by the circle went on to win the Oscar: WALL·E (2008), Happy Feet (2006), The Incredibles (2004), and Spirited Away (2002). It’s also significant to note that during the 2013 awards season, the NYFCC awarded Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises while the Oscar went to Frozen.

Of course, given the more diverse set of animated films that came out of 2014, things should be a tad more unpredictable and thus more fun to guess.

Stay tuned for more award coverage as we wrap up our Best Animated Feature series!

What do you think? Are you satisfied with the vote?
