Are you ready for some serious space adventure? Are you ready to drink blue milk? Are you ready to wait 3+ hours to get in to the not-that-big-but-way-detailed Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?
During the annual shareholders’ meeting, Disney finally announced the eagerly anticipated opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (or just Galaxy’s Edge) in Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Each coast’s space voyage will open to the audience in phases, and the first phase requires a (free) reservation to get in to the land itself.
Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge will open its first phase May 31st, almost a month earlier than many of the predictions placing it on June 21st. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open their Galaxy’s Edge this August 29th.
Both lands will open with almost all features and with Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run up and running (pun intended). However, Rise of the Resistance will open in a later phase, date TBA.
Now, a word about procedure. In an unprecedented move for the parks, each guest – in addition to having valid theme park admission – must also make a free reservation to get access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, though only through July 23rd. These reservations are not yet available to make, and their release date is TBA, but some guests will get an advantage: if you stay at a Disneyland hotel on dates when the Galaxy’s Edge land is open, you will receive a designated reservation. Grab rooms while you can (and while you can afford it), because that shortcut will lead to quick price hikes and no vacancies.
It’s unclear as of yet how the reservations will operate. Clearly, they are intended to manage and minimize the intense crowds to be expected, but it’s unclear if this means a certain amount of reservations per day or if it will go as far as scheduling people per time slots, similar to FastPasses.
Speaking of FastPasses, there will be no FastPasses or Disney MaxPass available for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attractions. In addition, it will not be open during Extra Magic Hour/Magic Mornings.
