It wasn’t just Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios who made some big announcements yesterday at the 2017 D23 Expo – Marvel Animation had some exciting news to share about its upcoming animated TV shows as well! Cort Lane, SVP of Animation and Family Entertainment at Marvel, revealed some big news about upcoming Marvel Animation projects!
Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars
Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars is a new Marvel animated series that follows the Avengers team. This season picks up after the previous Avengers series, Marvel’s Avengers: Ultron Revolution.
While the series is already airing on TV and can be seen weekly on Disney XD, Lane hinted at what fans can expect for the rest of the season. According to Lane, this season will include a story arc that involves the Avengers teaming up with Taskmaster to take on MODOK, a super villain whose name is an acronym for Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Lane, along with the voice cast of the show Will Friedle (Peter Quill), Trevor Devall (Rocket Raccoon), Kevin Michael Richardson (Groot), Vanessa Marshall (Gamora), and David Sobolov (Drax), also had some exciting information to share about the Guardians of the Galaxy animated TV show, which is currently in its second season.
According to Lane and the cast, season three of the series will involve a Mission Breakout storyline that will tie into the new ride of the same name that recently opened in Disney’s California Adventure theme park. In this story, the Collector comes after the Guardians, causing the team to have to split up and go on solo adventures.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
One of the most highly anticipated parts of the panel were the announcements about the new Marvel’s Spider-Man animated TV show, which will air on Disney XD August 19. Lane revealed that the first episode of the new series will focus on Peter Parker’s first day as a superhero.
The new series will feature Robbie Daymond as Peter Parker, Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales, Melanie Minichino as Anya Corazon, Max Mittleman as Harry Osborn, Bettina Kenney as Aunt May, Alastair Duncan as Vulture, Scott Menville as Dr. Octopus, and Joe Quesada as Joe, a coffee shop owner who befriends Peter.
The new series will feature a storyline revolving around Peter’s struggle with the Symbiote alien from the comics. Even more exciting for fans is that this storyline will somehow connect the new Spider-Man series to the Guardians of the Galaxy series!
