One of the biggest stories coming out of Annecy 2016 was Warner Animation Group’s slum dunk of a first appearance at the festival, where footage from the upcoming movie Storks was screened for the attending audience.
How appropriate then, that we would later get a new trailer for the film shortly thereafter. You can watch it down below:
If you’ve read the Annecy 2016 report, notice how the beginning and end of the trailer are bookended with one of several scenes in the trailer that were shown to audiences: the confrontation between Tulip and Junior and the wolf pack over the baby. The other scene shown at the festival (the one with the penguin fight) was also seen in trailer, near the end.
All in all, this is a solid trailer for what looks to be a surprisingly enjoyable film and a good first original outing for Warner Animation Group. During the Annecy 2016 presentation, producer Brad Lewis made a point of noting how the film marks the solidification of WAG’s house style. Indeed, both this trailer and the two trailers for The LEGO Batman Movie carry themselves with the same energy, vibe, and Looney Tunes-esque movement that defines a WAG film, while both carry a distinctive voice and tone.
Warner Animation Group had also dated a second original project for Spring of 2018: Smallfoot. If Storks is an indicator of how WAG handles its non-LEGO movies, then that has me even more convinced that they are an animation studio to watch.
What do you think? Any thoughts on the trailer? Are you looking forward to Storks?
