A new addition to the voice-cast for Disney Animation’s upcoming animated feature Moana has been announced. Star of the Broadway hit musical Hamilton, Phillipa Soo has joined the cast of the animated feature as a new character.
Entertainment Weekly revealed that Soo will be playing a villager of Motunui, Moana’s home island. Since this news wasn’t announced with any other voice cast announcement, it appears to be like she might have a bigger role in the film than just a regular villager. Soo will be reunited with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who she co-stars with in Hamilton and also writes the music for Moana.
Soo will be joining Dwayne Johnson who will be playing a demigod named Maui and Auli’i Cravalho who will be playing the film’s title character, Moana.
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes ‘Moana,’ a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
Disney’s Moana soars into theaters on November 23, 2016.
