Independent animator Bill Plympton has released a trailer for his new mockumentary called Hitler’s Folly.
There is some adult content in this trailer, so viewer discretion advised.
Plympton, the director of Cheatin’ and Idiots and Angels, has never been afraid of taking on bold topics, but this certainly looks like his most outlandish. The premise is described as “a satirical reimagining on the life and dreams of the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. The film explores Hitler’s unfulfilled animation career, involving creating a Disneyland-like place called Nazi-land.”
There certainly have been movies that poked fun at Nazis, such as The Producers or Inglorious Bastards, but it’s tough to do. Bill Plympton has to have the jokes perfect or it could easily be very offensive. He hasn’t pulled punches in the past, so I suppose if anyone can pull it off it is him – but it certainly makes me nervous.
Addendum- I learned from ‘Variety‘ after posting this trailer review that “Hitler’s Folley will be available free to stream at plymptoons.com on Friday, June 3 as special thank-you to his loyal fans …It also will be available on YouTube and Vimeo.”
What do you think about this trailer and concept for a film? Have you seen any of Bill Plympton’s films?
