Disney Channel is gearing up to welcome its newest Disney franchise spinoff series that it hopes will be a new home run along the lines of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and The Never Land Pirates, and Sofia the First. The new show, The Lion Guard, exists within the world of The Lion King and stars Kion, Simba and Nala’s second child (remember Kiara was their first). The series revolves around Kion as he leads a group of animal warriors to protect the Pride Lands.
The show won’t debut until 2016, but in the meantime a TV movie will act as the series pilot and a glimpse of what’s to come. The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar premieres Sunday, November 22, at 7pm EST on Disney Channel and the network just released two new looks at the telecast. First, check out this epic poster:
Next, we have a small teaser trailer. There is certainly an effort here to attract the attentions of more than just the preschool demographic.
As we found out this summer, The Lion Guard‘s voice cast roster includes Rob Lowe as Simba, Gabrielle Union as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Kevin Schon as Timon, and Ernie Sabella as Pumbaa. Making up the ‘Lion Guard’ troupe of heroes is Max Charles as Kion, Joshua Rush as Bunga the honey badger, Atticus Schafer as Ono the egret, Diamond White as Fuli the cheetah, and Dusan Brown as Beshte the hippo. Rounding out the supporting cast are Madison Pettis and Sarah Hyland.
