The composer and lyricist Danny Elfman will reprise his singing role as Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas at the Hollywood Bowl this Halloween.
Elfman, who was also the front man of alternative rock band Oingo Boingo, has been scoring Tim Burton’s movies for over thirty years. As well as writing the music and lyrics to The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elfman provided the singing voice to the central character Jack Skellington. This seems fitting as Elfman described in Premiere Magazine that writing the songs for the movie was “one of the easiest jobs I’ve ever had. I had a lot in common with Jack.” In the same film, Elfman also provided the voices for the trick-or-treater Barrel and the terrifying “Clown with the Tear-Away Face.”
John Mauceri will conduct the orchestra and choir along with “Special Guest Artists” to help fill out the cast of characters. The Hollywood Bowl will be decorated to look like a real-life version of Halloween Town, and audiences can dress up as their favorite Tim Burton character for their chance to win the costume contest.
After seeing Elfman in the UK performing a handful of The Nightmare Before Christmas songs live, I must advise you that this is not to be missed if you’re a fan. He puts his heart and soul into the performances and his passionate voice will have you imagining Jack Skellington himself standing on stage.
The show is at the Hollywood Bowl in LA on Saturday, October 31st at 8 pm. Tickets go on sale on Friday the 18th at 12 pm on Ticketmaster.
