Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur has gone through a lot of evolutions over its rocky production. However, now that we are less that a year away from the film’s November 2015 release, Pixar surprised us with a snazzy new logo, in addition to some new concept art.

New Logo

The new logo was revealed in the 2015 Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture preview kit. The new logo is reminiscent of the most recent logo, but with a simplified twist. The font is asymmetrical and rough around the edges, giving the impression of a crude wheel cut by prehistoric hands. Actually, the font is rather similar to the logo of DreamWorks’ The Croods, which came out in 2013, that featured a similar stone-age setting. The new logo ditches the former brown and green color palette, opting for a clean, simple and monochromatic white font. Also, the underline, which was prominent in the previous logo, has been pared down to just highlight just the first word “the.”

Old Logos

This first logo was revealed nearly three years ago at CinemaCon in 2012. At the time, the film was still untitled as was known as The Untitled Pixar Movie about Dinosaurs and was still slated for a May 2014 release.

The updated logo, which featured the official title The Good Dinosaur, was released in February 2013. Less than six months later, it would be discovered that director Bob Peterson had been removed from the project and the film had been pushed back nearly a year and a half.

New Concept Art

Now this is what we’re talking about! Also accompanying the preview kit was this stunning concept art showing Arlo, the Apatosaurus, and his human companion as they overlook a breathtaking forest and mountain landscape. The piece is painterly, featuring heavy brush stokes, and seems to be set during the Fall. It will be interesting to learn in what part of the film this scene takes place once it’s released.

Plot synopsis:

The Good Dinosaur” asks the generations-old question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?  In theaters November 25, 2015, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively Apatosaurus with a big heart.  After a traumatic event unsettles Arlo’s family, he sets out on a remarkable journey, gaining an unlikely companion along the way – a human boy.  “The Good Dinosaur” is an extraordinary journey of self-discovery full of thrilling adventure, hilarious characters and poignant heart.

The Good Dinosaur hits theatres November 25, 2015.

What do you think of the new logo and concept art for The Good Dinosaur?
