After the success of the 2003 hit movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell, we shouldn’t have been surprised that it got its own Broadway musical and stop-motion spin-off, which was announced a few months ago. Now NBC has finally released a promotional clip of the new animated Christmas special titled Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas.
The clip shows a much more goofier – and very long necked – version of Buddy, and the absence of Ferrell does make it difficult to relate the character to the movie version. But Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper from
The Big Bang Theory) has enough animation and spirit in his voice to make it his own.
The preview also appears to show much resemblance to the scene in the live-action movie where Buddy unveils a ‘fraud’ Santa too, as shown below.
But that might be the only close similarity since there are nine musical numbers and an array of new characters in the animated Warner Brothers special.
Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas is scheduled to be aired on December 16 on NBC (8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT).
What do you think of the sneak preview? Will you be watching Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas?
