Live-action twists and retellings of classic animated films seems to be Disney’s current forte nowadays. And if the recent box-office success of Maleficent is any indication, it seems to be successful formula so far.

As such, it would only be a matter of time before this formula would spread to another medium as the Disney Channel prepares Descendants, an upcoming TV movie that brings together the teenaged offspring of Disney’s most iconic villains.

Set to air in 2015, we now have our first look at the young cast of the film, which features Booboo Stewart, Cameron Boyce, Dove Cameron, and Sofia Carson as Jay (Jafar’s son), Carlos (Cruella de Vil’s son), Mal (Maleficent’s daughter), and Evvie (the Evil Queen’s daughter), respectively.

The adult cast (at least on the villain side) includes: Maz Jobrani as Jafar, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cruella de Vil, and Kristen Chenoweth rounding out the adult cast of villains as Maleficent.

The first photo looks fantastic and is a bit campy. It really plays up the fact that these are the children of animated villains. The costumes and overall designs are great. A lot of the kiddos are sporting leather jackets and other hardcore apparel, showing that they mean business. We can only imagine that the children of the heroes will be a bit more prim and proper than this bunch.

Here is the synopsis:

In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne,” Disney writes. “His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?

What are your thoughts on the first photo of the young ‘Descendants’ cast? Who’s your favorite?
