For those of us who thought that Disney’s Frozen couldn’t break any more records, here’s one more: 
the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning smash hit animated movie has now broken a record previously held by none other than Disney’s former crowning glory: The Lion King.
Easter week was Frozen’s highest selling week ever, with sales of 259,000 copies, bringing the album’s cumulative sales to 2.3 million copies. This was also Frozen’s 11th week at the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart, breaking the record held by The Lion King (10 weeks) for the longest running #1 soundtrack for an animated film. Frozen is only the ninth album in history–and third soundtrack album–to spend 11 weeks at #1.
Meanwhile, the album’s main single “Let It Go” performed by Idina Menzel, currently sits at the #5 position on the Billboard Hot 100. Both the album and “Let It Go” have been certified Platinum.
However, Frozen has not yet been able to replicate the phenomenal sales of The Lion King’s soundtrack, which went on to sell over 10 million copies and was certified Diamond back in 1994.
Since it’s debut in November, Frozen has become a global sensation. It stands as the highest grossing animated film of all time with ticket sales of $1.1 billion ($400 million domestically) this weekend it also overtook Transformers: Dark of the Moon to become the 6th highest grossing film of all time.
