The Lego Movie hadn’t even been released when Warner Bros. announced that it was making a sequel. Now, the film has been out just a few short weeks and Box Office Mojo reports that The Lego Movie sequel is set for a May 26, 2017 release date.
No other films are set for this date (yet). It’s in the sequel’s best interest that no other family films pick this date, so that way the film can score big at the box office again. The Lego Movie didn’t have any family-friendly competition when it opened, which allowed for families to pack theatre houses like sardines during its opening weekend. Three years from now, boys, kids and adults will probably be chomping at the bit for another action-packed, hilarious Lego film, so no matter what ends up opening alongside The Lego Movie 2, it seems Warner Brothers is due for another massive success.
No word on who will direct the new brick film and whether its voice talent will return. Although Jared Stern and another undisclosed writer will pen the sequel.
