The Rotoscopers were honored to be invited to cover the “white carpet” at the world premiere of Frozen in LA! The world premiere was held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, CA on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Morgan and Chelsea represented the site at this event and we’re excited to bring all the details to all you fellow Frozen fanatics! Arriving at Hollywood Boulevard
Press were invited to arrive an hour early to set up, but we got there a few hours early to check out the area. Here are photos of the white carpet and the El Capitan Theatre from across the street.
The White Carpet
Looks like Elsa visited Hollywood and unleashed an icy storm because the red carpet was covered in snow! Hello, white carpet! There was big mounds of snow flanking both side of the white carpet, with marquees that said “Frozen World Premiere.”
Since Elsa’s snow made it so chilly, guests walking the white carpet were treated to Ghirardelli hot chocolate. And boy, oh boy, that was some of the richest, most delicious hot chocolate we’ve ever tasted.
Prepping for the Interviews
Chelsea and Morgan had some time to spare after entering the press area, so started setting up equipment, taking photos and shooting some video.
Anna & Elsa Face Characters
The new Anna and Elsa face characters made an appearance at the event. These are the same girls who played the characters in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. They’ll likely to be the official faces of the characters until the film is released and the princesses can be regularly found in all the parks.

Interviews
Once 5 o’clock rolled around, people starting arriving and walking on the white carpet. The filmmakers and stars pose for photos upon arrival and then go speak with certain pre-assigned outlets. We obviously wanted to speak to everyone, but only had time to interview only a handful of the whole Frozen cast and crew that was present.
Michale Giaimo
The first filmmaker we got to speak to was Frozen‘s Art Director Michael Giaimo. He was a very genuine, passionate, incredible guy and we were able to interview him for over 30 minutes! He shared a lot of stories about making the film, different inspiration for different characters and what it meant to him to work on aAs Chelsea said, “You only ever get a chance to go that in depth on things like director’s commentaries!” It was one of the highlights of the night speaking to him. Dorothy McKim & Lauren MacMullen
Next up was the team from Get a Horse!, the new Mickey Mouse short that plays in front of Frozen. We spoke with producer Dorothy McKim and director Lauren MacMullen. These ladies were an absolute delight and it was great talking to them about this animation achievement.
Livvy Stubenrauch
Next up we got to speak to the adorable Livvy Stubenrauch, who voices young Anna in the film. Livvy was an absolute doll and definitely looked the part of a princess. I mean, look at that face? Don’t you just want to squish it?
Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck & Peter Del Vecho
We were then surprised by the Frozen filmmaking trio–producer Peter Del Vecho and directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. They came up together and presented us with a jam-packed Frozen goodie bag on behalf of everyone at Walt Disney Animation Studios as a thank you for all the positive in-depth coverage we had done for Frozen over the year. We really were doing all the coverage because we were completely enraptured with the film and wanted to let the world know about it; we weren’t expecting anything out of it, so it was really an incredibly sweet gesture.
We had a big list of questions to ask them, but they ended up interviewing us! It was a great moment to meet the incredibly talented and insightful filmmakers and to chat with them for a bit. Definitely something we’ll always remember.
Kristen Bell
After that, everyone was whisked away to take a cast and crew photo in front of the big snow mound. It seemed like that was the end of the interviews since the screening would be starting shortly thereafter. But the incredible Kristen Bell ended up saying on the white carpet even after the screening started, so that everyone could get a chance to interview her. Are you kidding me? What a sweetheart. Chelsea got to ask Kristen a few questions and she was just as adorable, beautiful and sweet as you’d imagine her to be.

When we had some down time, we checked out what was inside our goodie bag that the directors and producer had given us. There were some pretty great stuff including an Olaf plush, Sven plush, Get a Horse! poster, Frozen t-shirt, Frozen backpack, Frozen notebook and Frozen water bottle. Let’s just say that I definitely will be wearing that t-shirt every day for the next few years.
Screening & After Party
We didn’t get to attend the screening of after party, but heard that they both were a blast. Before the screening of the film, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger got up and gave a tribute to Diane Disney Miller, Walt Disney’s daughter, who had died earlier that day. After the screening, there were more festivities, including more chainsaw-weilding ice carvers and an ice-cream bar decked out with all the Kellogg’s toppings you could imagine. There also were some fun games and snowflake decorating for the kids to enjoy, while the adults socialized and sipped on champagne.
Final Thoughts
We want to thank everyone at Disney and Walt Disney Animation Studios for making this possible. It was really a dream come true and we were walking on cloud nine for days! Covering the Frozen World Premiere was the culmination of all the Frozen coverage and news stories we have done over the past year. It was an honor to attend and to meet some of the many fantastic people involved in making this new Disney classic.
