The nice folks over at A113 Animation are reporting that Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, is writing a book about the studio’s history. Catmull is a computer genius and, along with others, developed tools that changed animation and special effects forever, like Pixar’s RenderMan. The book, titled Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces that Stand in the Way of True Inspiration will tell the story from an insider’s perspective, focusing on how Pixar evolved from a struggling hardware selling company to the extremely successful movie studio that it is today.
Catmull, who is President of both Pixar and Disney right now, will co-write the book with Amy Wallace. It will be published by Random House on April 8th, 2014. It will join books such as Karen Paik’s fantastic To Infinity and Beyond!: The Story of Pixar Animation Studios or David Price’s The Pixar Touch in detailing the story of one of the most successful movie studios ever. Also worth mentioning is 2007’s The Pixar Story, a great documentary about Pixar.
