In the last week, animation has received many saddening shocks as some of the most beloved names in the industry move on into futures that we cannot foresee, taking steps further from the films and studios that we know and love them for. One of the worst of these was the announcement of Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement. The Japanese director of ten films, he has touched the world with his whimsical stories. This is very depressing for us, but here is a video of him announcing his retirement. This has been a very sad week, but it is still wonderful to see that people are so passionate about their work, and no matter what Miyazaki does from here, we will believe in him, and wish him the best of luck.
