Studio Ghibli Releases New Stills for ‘The Wind is Rising’ Summer Film

Not only did Studio Ghibli release new stills from Hayao Miyazaki’s new film, they also have some more news…though no trailer to speak of.

Hayao Miyazaki’s new film, The Wind is Rising was originally scheduled to be released in Japan on July 20th along with Isao Takahata’s The Tale of Princess Kaguya, for a Studio Ghibli double feature summer. However, Takahata’s film has been pushed back for a premiere in the fall, which means it’s still going to be a Ghibli filled year!

The Wind is Rising has shared the following stills and promotional posters (though only in this small format). Twitch noted that the marketing team was especially keen on portraying the protagonist in the material a little differently than is in fashion right now. Most films are showcasing their protagonists head on, front and center. In these posters Jiro, the main character, is seen from behind, in profile, or not at all. I’m sure this perspective will lend itself to the film as well as Miyazaki embraces uniqueness.
