Today many Pixar-related accounts, like The Pixar Blog, have tweeted recommending an article from The Verge about how Pixar uses Math to make their movies. Tony DeRose is a Senior Scientist in the award-winning studio and is the lead of their Research Division.
He gave an interesting lecture about the use of math to advance computer animation. It’s interesting to learn about what happens behind the animation. Pixar’s stories are so good and their animation so beautiful that you might forget that they’re also pioneers in terms of technology. Just days ago, the President of Pixar was inducted into the Computer Science Museum Hall of Fame.
The article is certainly worth the read and it will give those of you who hate Math a reason to forgive it. Without it, there would be no movies that look as beautiful as Brave of the upcoming Monsters University. The amount of work that went into making Merida’s hair look living (more than life-like, the article points out) is incredible and definitely worth learning about.
