Studio Ghibli fans, you can rejoice for possibly the very last time. GKIDS has announced that it will be releasing and dubbing into English, Studio Ghibli’s When Marnie Was There in North America for a spring release. Unfortunately, Studio Ghibli has decided to take a break from making animated movies for the foreseeable future, so if you like this studio, it might be a good idea to check out this film when GKIDS releases it! For all those who are interested, here is a quick summary:
A young girl is sent to the country for health reasons, here she meets an unlikely friend in the form of Marnie, a young girl with flowing blonde hair. As the friendship unravels it is possible that Marnie has closer ties to the protagonist then we might expect.
Based on GKIDS’ excellent release of The Tale of Princess Kaguya, which received high marks in our site’s review, audiences should not worry as to if Studio Ghibli’s film will be treated with the respect it deserves. Lastly, as someone who has seen the film, I can confidently say, if this is Ghibli’s final film, they ended their rather impressive streak on a high note.
What do you think about this film possibly being Studio Ghibli’s last? Will you be seeing it?
