Helena Bonham Carter, known for her iconic role as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movie series, has been confirmed to join the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Cinderella as- wait for it- the Fairy Godmother.
You read that right. Bonham Carter, who is known for essaying dark, offbeat, even scary roles, such as in Alice In Wonderland and Les Miserables, will be seen as Cinderella’s (played by Lily James) Fairy Godmother in the movie that’s expected to release next year.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella is being helmed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, which along with Lily James and Helena Bonham Carter, also stars Richard Madden as the prince, and Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother.
Disney does not have a fixed release date for this film yet, but as of now, it’s set for release next year. Expect it to be released around 2015 since Disney already has a big budget Sleeping Beauty spin-off called Maleficent in the works.
Although Helena usually chooses dark and offbeat roles, we’re sure that she’ll be able to pull off the eccentric-yet-lovable role of the Fairy Godmother quite perfectly.
Your thoughts on this? Will Helena be a great Fairy Godmother? Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!
