Today DreamWorks Animation released the first trailer of its upcoming animated feature Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which will release early next year.

We finally got to hear Ty Burrell (Modern Family) speak as Mr. Peabody and Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Sherman. Mr. Peabody and Sherman is directed by Rob Minkoff, one of the co-directors of The Lion King.

This new trailer shows the beautiful art style of this movie. It’s all very big, cartoony and in some way theatrical (for example, the lighting in the scene where Mr. Peabody adopts Sherman in the foreign trailer). I really liked the characters and their designs and I’m excited to see the relationship between Mr. Peabody and Sherman, but also that between Sherman and Penny.

Yesterday DreamWorks released a bunch of foreign trailers that are completely different from the US trailer. You can watch those on the DreamWorks YouTube channel and read my translation of those trailers on Tumblr.

The new trailers contained a lot of famous historical moments and figures like Mona Lisa, the Trojan horse and Leonardo DaVinci. In the foreign trailers you can also find Marie Antoinette and a lot of footage from the old Egypt.

I wasn’t too familiar with the original cartoons, so I watched some of the classic Mr. Peabody and Sherman cartoons online. I have the feeling this movie will definitely stay true to the original cartoons, but just with a longer and expanded storyline.

Also, Ty Burrell was guest on The Today Show earlier today and there they showed some new clips from the movie. You can find the trailer and the interview with Ty Burrell below.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman
opens March 7, 2014.

What are you thoughts of the first Peabody trailer? Are you excited to see this film?
