Another week has come and gone and it is time for our next indie-mation club pick announcement! Get out your time machines and go back to the very beginnings of animation because we will be reviewing the amazing silhouette technique animated film The Adventures of Prince Achmed on Monday.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed was released in 1926 and is  the oldest surviving animated feature film. It was directed by Lotte Reiniger who had a fascinating life (Hollywood- make a movie about her!) and made beautiful films that hold up remarkably well. As I said, she uses a technique called the ‘silhouette technique’ which uses light boards and paper cutouts that are moved around to create the animation. It’s beautiful and very unique.

The story is a take on the Aladdin legend but different than the Disney version- more of a traditional take. It currently can be found on dvd/blu-ray and free to watch if you have Amazon prime, so try something different this weekend and come chat with us on Monday when we post the review
