Yes, this is a bit of a late-breaking story (hard to write when you are enjoying your Summer), but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to write-up a LEGO Movie-related story, especially when it might help to explain why one of the upcoming films in the franchise was recently delayed to 2019.

In a report from Variety, it was confirmed that Raphael Bob-Waksberg will rewrite the screenplay for The LEGO Movie Sequel.

The script was originally penned by LEGO Movie architects Phil Lord and Chris Miller (based on story work done by Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan). However, Warner Bros. opted for a fresh take on the script in the wake of Lord and Miller’s super-busy schedule drawing them away from the production process (The Last Man on Earth, Son of Zorn, Han Solo, The Flash, Animated Spider-Man, etc).

You might not know who Bob-Waksberg is, but you may be familiar with his work (especially is if you watch a lot of animated TV). He wrote episodes for NBC’s short-lived comedy Save Me and had an acting role on Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital. He recently gained notoriety as the creator and showrunner of the adult-oriented Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman. The LEGO Movie Sequel will be his first film gig and his feature animation debut as a screenwriter.

Last month, we told you the film was delayed for unknown reasons. Now, we know what part of the reasons were and its among one of the more commonplace issues for any animated: the production team needed more time to polish the script and fine-tune the story before going proceeding further into production.

The LEGO Movie Sequel is the fourth film in the LCU (LEGO Cinematic Universe), following The LEGO Batman Movie on February 10, 2017 and The LEGO Ninjago Movie on September 22, 2017.

What do you think? If you are a fan of BoJack Horseman, do you think Raphael was a good choice for a re-do of the script?
