The red carpet for the British Academy Film Awards rolled out in London on Sunday and the directors of the 2014 hit The Lego Movie walked away with the award.

While the nominees included Big Hero 6 and The Boxtrolls, it was The Lego Movie‘s directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (below) who took home the award for Best Animated Film. They were noticeably thrilled, particularly after having been left out of the nominations for Best Animated Feature in the Oscars. They weren’t afraid to mention this fact in their acceptance speech either as they joked, “You are our favorite Academy by far. You guys win the award for best Academy. This is the end of the awards road for us, so we can say whatever we want. There’s no one left to impress.” Miller continued, in good humor, when he described the award as a “Halloween mask for a one-eyed child.”

Chris Hees’ The Bigger Picture – a short about two brothers who argue about their elderly mother as she needs more care – won in the Best Animated Short category. Does this mean there could there be an Oscar for Hees in the near future too? More information on the feature and animated short nominees can be found here.

What do you think? Are you happy The Lego Movie won Best Animated Feature at the BAFTAs?
