Announced at the recent Television Critics Association press tour, DC comics will be expanding its television world to include Vixen, an African native and member of the Justice League International. Set in Detroit, the series will be crossing paths with The Flash and Arrow in the same connected universe. Vixen will premiere on CW Seed, the networks digital-only outlet and will be produced by Arrow E.P. Marc Guggenheim. It’s slated for 6 episodes and, if successful, will lead to a live-action series.

In the comics Vixen (alter ego Mari Jiwe McCabe) is a part-time model and full-time crime fighter, thanks to her use of the Tantu Totem, which gives her the superhuman ability to mimic the abilities of animals.  She was intended to be DC’s first African superhero in 1978, but the imprint went through a mass cancellation of its titles and Vixen didn’t appear until 1981.

Appearing on television in Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave And The Bold, this will mark her first standalone series.

What do you think about the new DC animated series Vixen? Will you check it out?

Jed is a writer and artist living in Iowa. When he isn't living in the myriad mythical and fantastical worlds in his head he's making comics of varying degrees of quality. Growing up on a diet of both Walt Disney and The Brothers Quay, Jed fell in love with animation at an early age. A lifelong student of storytelling and aesthetics, animation has proven an invaluable teacher that has extended its reach far and wide from Pixar and Laika to Ghibli and the works of Jan Svankmmajer. He's also been known to overanalyze the subtle subtext of Bee Movie. When he's not poring over books, comics, and movies, he's making stories of his own. Jed's first self-published graphic novel, Goodbye Stranger, is due out in 2016.
