Just yesterday we were treated to the first full-length Big Hero 6 trailer and today Disney released the Japanese trailer that is strikingly different in feel and tone.

SPOILER WARNING: this trailer and article includes some plot points not revealed yet in the US trailers.

Right from the onset, the Japanese Big Hero 6 (titled Baymax in Japan) trailer focuses on the death of Hiro’s brother and idol Tadashi, a plot point that happens pretty early in the film. We see the funeral and then Hiro alone and struggling with his grief. But this sets up Baymax’s introduction perfectly, who is a healthcare robot whose primarily purpose is to treat patrons of nearly any ailment. The two bond, but then the rest of the trailer is composed of trailer from the teaser trailer, where Hiro tries to upgrade Baymax with armor to make him a bit tougher.

It was great to see another trailer so quickly, especially since it contained new footage. Most surprising was that we got to see Tadashi for the first time. The way the trailer set it up, he’s completely endearing, sweet and lovable. It’ll be a sad moment in the film when we lose him.

Historically, the Japanese Disney and Pixar trailers have always been darker and more serious. This one is no exception. The Japanese trailers are always fan favorites because they really get to the point of the film, highlighting the portions of the film that the fans really want to see, opposed to goofy sidekicks and slapstick humor that is rampant in many animation US trailers.

This trailer focuses more on emotion and characters rather than comedy, although there still are many comedic elements. Then entire armor scene is still hilarious, as well as any time Baymax is on screen.

Big Hero 6 hits theatres November 7.

What do you think of the Japanese ‘Big Hero 6’ trailer? Do you like it more than the US trailer?
