‘Cinderella’ to Debut ‘Signature Collection’ Release in June

Milking the Walt Disney Signature Collection for all its might prior to the Disney+ November launch, the 1950 classic Cinderella limps its way to the finish line as it’s added to the Collection in June.

With a digital release of June 18 and a Blu-ray release of June 25, the new volume only offers two new bonus features:

Of more substantial inclusion is the existing bonus material created for the film’s prior 2005 DVD release and 2012 Blu-ray/digital release that makes a return appearance for this new “Signature” release. If you’re frequenting this website, it’s quite likely you already own either or both of those editions, making the new release a difficult sell.

Perhaps aware of its own lack of ‘newness,’ the trailer for the new release doesn’t mention either of the new bonus features. Instead, Disney spotlights this as the opportunity to introduce the film to a new generation of viewers who may not have ever experienced it before. In other words, this is really for families who don’t have the film already, not for fans who own past editions.

This is likely one of the last instances we’ll ever see of a film emerging from the metaphorical “Disney vault” for a limited-time availability. Once Disney+ debuts on November 12, the entire Disney library is enjoyable digitally forever, making the future of special edition volumes like the Signature Collection uncertain.

The Walt Disney Signature Collection launched in 2016 and thus far includes Snow White and the Seven DwarfsBeauty and the BeastPinocchioBambiThe Lion KingLady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, and The Little Mermaid. You can check out Rotoscopers’ reviews of some of those releases by clicking the respective titles.

Will you buy the Signature release of Cinderella, or will you wait for Disney+?
