The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show will premiere on Netflix this Friday, bringing the titular duo back to television in the form of a late-night talk show (with time travel and historical figures added in for good measure).
Courtesy of DreamWorks Animation, we have two new clips of footage from the show that should give viewers a good feel for the unique, Jay Wardian-style, and visuals along with the usual blend of history, sci-fi, and eccentric humor.
(From The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show)
The first clip is the opening credits for this series. Notice how the opening slyly mirrors that of openings for live-action talk shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
The second clip gives us a preview of the type of time-travel antics that Mr. Peabody and Sherman will engage in throughout the show. In this clip, we meet a version of Cleopatra (rude, hard-headed, and not very intelligent). Mr. Peabody, who’s naturally very knowledgeable with history, points Cleopatra towards a path that will lead her towards a higher goal (and thus won’t break history and cause a paradox).
Oh, and did I mention that like with real-life talk shows, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show will also feature musical acts from a number of different artists (who will also make appearances in the show themselves as they perform their respective songs). One of these songs is called ‘Black Hole’ by Jukebox the Ghost, which you can listen to in the video below.
You can buy the original soundtrack for the series here on Itunes. Physical copies of the album will be available in December.
Featuring the voices of Chris Parnell as Mr. Peabody and Max Charles as Sherman, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show will debut with 13 half-hour episodes, ready for your binge-watching pleasure.
Here is the official description for the show:
Debuting exclusively on Netflix October 9, THE MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN SHOW will turn the late night world upside down. Hosted by the world’s smartest dog, Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman, the high-energy talk show is broadcast in front of a live studio audience from their swanky New York City penthouse. In each episode the co-hosts interview a menagerie of historical figures, like George Washington and Edgar Allen Poe, and bring musical guests to the stage, all while nosey neighbors continuously interfere with their own agendas.
This modern take on the animated classic pairing not only brings the characters to the 21st century, but places them in a setting not unlike the after-midnight talk shows of the 60s – but one for families to enjoy together. Also in every episode, Peabody’s WABAC machine transports the talk show hosts and viewers on their Time Travel Adventures to the days of history’s most prominent figures, who are bent on accomplishing anything but what they’re known for – if not for a little help from Peabody. Historical figures Mr. Peabody and Sherman visit in the first several episodes include Napoleon, Cleopatra, Mozart, and Marco Polo. Peabody also uses the WABAC to bring important historical figures back to their modern day talk show set to bring history alive through hilarious segments and musical numbers.
With a comic pace that will keep audiences laughing at one ridiculous gag to the next, THE MR. PEABODY AND SHERMAN SHOW takes a sideward look at both world history and television through comedy built for kids and their families.
The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show will premiere exclusively for Netflix on October 9.
