A brand new clip for DreamWorks’ upcoming Kung Fu Panda 3 debuted on the studio’s Facebook page today and features a new look at the film and a hilarious Star Wars reference. There was no real reason to release this clip so early (the film won’t come out until January), but it’s been mentioned that the clip was a directors cut and it’s possibly not even in the actual film.
Check the new clip out below!
The clip references Star Wars, which seems like an odd choice considering the film was pushed back nearly a month from its original December 2015 release because it presumably had to compete with the latest Star Wars installment, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters only days after Kung Fu Panda’s intended release. The trailer has a little gag that you will get if you’ve seen the original Star Wars trilogy (which most probably have) and also features a new look at Li, Po’s biological father voiced by Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.
In 2016, one of the most successful animated franchises in the world returns with its biggest comedy adventure yet, ‘KUNG FU PANDA 3.’ When Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!
Kung Fu Panda 3 hits theaters on January 29, 2016.
