Miyazaki set

If you are a Studio Ghibli fan, you are most likely mourning the recent loss of one of the best animation studious in the world. Luckily, Disney is not ready to let the fantastic movies of Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki fade into nothingness. So, let me present The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray set. Not only does it look beautiful, this set is jam packed with movies and bonus materials (with some that have never been seen before in North America).

According to Disney’s press release, the set will contain the following films:

  • Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)
  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
  • Castle in the Sky (1986)
  • My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
  • Porco Rosso (1992)
  • Princess Mononoke (1997)
  • Spirited Away (2001)
  • Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
  • Ponyo (2008/2009)
  • The Wind Rises (2013)

As far as bonus features go, it will include quite a few gems. Yuki no Taiyou (Yuki’s Sun) is a 1972 TV pilot based on an original manga by Tetsuya Chiba, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It also will include three episodes from the 1972 anime Akado Suzunosuke (Little Samurai), which will feature storyboards and more by Hayao Miyazaki. And, finally, the uncut press conference from when Miyazaki announced his retirement.

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki will also feature a collector booklet by Tomohiro Machiyama called The Great Dichotomy: Looking at the Works of Hayao Miyazaki, which dives into Miyazaki’s various themes and filmmaking techniques. It also includes selected text from Hayao Miyazaki’s initial notes and creative proposals for the production of each film.

The release date for this gorgeous set is in November 17, so you will have more than enough time to save up all your hard earned money to buy it. Unfortunately, it’s exclusive to Amazon, so – for those outside the USA – it may be a little harder to get your hands on. As of right now, there is no word as to whether this set will make its way to Amazon’s sites for other countries, such as Canada.

For those who are unfamiliar with Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki, here is a taste of what you get with the purchase of this splendid release:

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki is priced at $249.99 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

Will you purchase this splendid set? What is your favorite Miyazaki movie?
